Looks good! Are you going to coat the whole floor or just that section?

I'm going to start with the sections that need it. I've still got more patching to do. The carpet is going back in for this year so it doesn't really matter if it doesn't look even. Once it gets stripped and caged then I'll give it a nice even coat.

Oh yeah... What'd you get?

...after doing this (and all of the goings on of my E21 body work extravaganza) I can say that body work is the worst part about buying an old car. I'll rebuild motors and suspension all day... but body work.... efffffff that. From now on, all vintage car purchases will be vetted way more carefully for cancer, or purchased from the southern US where rust is a non issue.

I HATE body work, but I find I am more okay with doing it than I used to be.

Just put a post up on my newest find, though the floors in my Invicta wagon need a little love as well http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/soooooooon-par…

Damn, nice work. Wanna do mine too? The passenger side is in a similar state as that one, though my driver's might be a bit worse. What did you do about the frame rail underneath that middle patch? Did you peal the floor completely off of it and weld the new piece to it?

Yeah, I peeled the floor completely off, leaving just the frame rail channel. Cleaned up inside of it as best I could, sprayed it with rust converter and then gave it a thick coat of rust paint. I'm also planning on welding a skin over the frame rail on the underside to beef it up.

I'm not looking forward to it but I may have to do the same. What are you doing/did you do about the corner of the floor, the "jacking point". I'm thinking of welding a piece of channel underneath the floor, connecting the framerail to the inside of the sill with the intention of strengthening the area, maybe being able to actually use it as a jacking point.

I hammered out this last patch on the car last night to finish up the corner...

I was thinking about that the other day as well. Since my car is fairly low for track duty, the average jack won't fit under the frame rail, I usually need another half inch clearance to get the jack under. I was thinking of welding like a 3" x 1/4" flat bar to the floor that goes from the frame rail to the sill, or maybe a couple pieces of 1" x 1" angle since they'd have more rigidity. My other thought was possibly welding a 1.25" or 1.5" square tube across and then making a piece that can slide into the tube which comes out past the sill and jogs up a couple inches with a pad making it really simple to jack up....

That looks like my Miata. My floor is about that bad.
